visual artist and art educator

Although my sources of inspiration are many, I am unmistakably attracted to the variations, colors, and layers I find in nature. My work is a response to the cathartic effects we experience while spending time in the landscape. Accumulation in nature addresses many interesting parallels with human life. Falling leaves are about death and decay, maturity and transition, a beginning and an ending. My work formulates a language to communicate this emotional release. My paintings are microcosms that represent this concept. Working in a combination of oil, graphite, and charcoal, I apply line, color and shape, building texture to the extent that interpretation becomes ambiguous. This enables the viewer to form a more personal response to the work, forming an aesthetic attachment or a subconscious one.
